2008 Pennsylvania Junior Wrestling State Championship

General Information

1. A note from the tournament director: Erie is very excited to host this years PJW State Championship and we are all working really hard to make this experience a memorable one for the wrestlers and their families. Hopefully you will find Erie a very hospitable and friendly city with plenty of accommodations and things to do. If there any suggestions you have to improve things for next year, please fill out one of the surveys that will be found throughout the Arena during the tournament.

2. Location: The 2008 and 2009 PJW State Championship tournament will be held at the Lou Tullio Arena in Erie PA. Directions to the Arena can be found further down in this document or on the internet at ( http://www.erieevents.com/tullio.html .)

3. Schedule: The tournament will consist of 3 sessions.

Session I: Friday, March 28 at 9:00AM (doors open at 7:30AM)

Session II: Saturday, March 29 at 8:00AM (doors open at 7:00AM)

Session III: Saturday, March 29 at 5:00PM (doors open at 4:00PM)

4. General Admissions Costs:

$15.00 Adult All Session $8.00 Adult Single Session Only

$7.00 Student All Session $4.00 Student Single Session Only

Tickets, programs and wrestling apparel may be purchased during weigh-ins at the Family First Sports Park on Thursday evening or at the Louis J. Tullio Arena before the start of each session.

5. Weigh-ins: Will be conducted at the Family First Sports Park on Thursday, March 27^th, 6PM to 10PM (flat weight) and on Friday, March 28^th 7AM to 8AM (1 pound allowance) at the Lou Tullio Arena (signs will be posted for location).

6. Apparel: Tournament apparel and programs will be sold during weigh-ins at the Family First Sports Park as well as at the Lou Tullio Arena during the tournament.

7. Locker Facilities: There are limited locker facilities at the Louis J. Tullio Arena. There will be specific locker rooms available for wrestlers to change and shower in, which will have signs identifying them. These locker rooms will be closely monitored by the tournament security staff, and no misconduct or vandalism will be permitted. Area VIII, Louis J. Tullio Arena, or the Pennsylvania Junior Wrestling Committee will not be responsible for lost or stolen items from these facilities.

8. Concessions: The concession stands will be operating throughout the tournament for your convenience. The concessions are operated solely by the Louis J. Tullio Arena and PJW is in no way affiliated with these concessions. Food or drink will not be permitted when entering the arena.

Weigh-ins:

You will be given two opportunities to weigh-in for the 2008 PJW State Championship as shown below, although you only need to weigh-in one of those times. At the Friday morning weigh-in you will be given a 1 pound weight allowance.

Friday, March 28^th, 2008 – 7AM to 8AM at the Louis J. Tullio Arena (signs will be posted for location)

The Thursday evening weigh-ins will be held at the Family First Sports Park which is located just outside of Erie, PA. Additional information about this facility can be found on line at www.familyfirstsportspark.com . During weigh-ins you will be able to purchase tournament admission tickets, tournament programs and tournament wrestling apparel. When you arrive at this facility signs will direct you to the weigh-in area.

Directions to Family First Sports Park: Getting to the park is fairly simple, heading north on I90 take exit 24, at the stop light turn right on Peach Street/Rt. 19 and proceed to the first stop light (which is about 200 yards) and turn right. Go about ¼ of a mile and Family First Sports Park is on the left.

Event Parking

The tournament organizers have met with the Erie Parking Authority to discuss parking logistics for this tournament. Saturday parking will be free and plentiful although Friday may be a bit more challenging since individuals working in the city will consume the typical event parking. Below the Erie Parking Authority has identified where they believe parking will be available. They have also agreed that cars will not be ticketed if they are parked at an expired meter although tickets may be issued if a vehicle is illegally parked in a manner that causes a potential hazard.

Friday (3/28/08)

• 127 spaces at the Louis J. Tullio Arena Surface Lot
• 200 spaces at the 10^th and French parking lot
• 300 spaces at the West 9^th parking lot (between Peach and Sassafras Streets)
• 250 spaces at the Liberty Street Park n’ Ride lot (free shuttle every 20 minutes)
• 200 plus spaces at Convention Center parking lot (shuttle will take you to arena)
• Numerous downtown street parking spaces and small lots.
• There are also private parking lots available, although they will charge a parking fee.
• 225 spaces available for park and ride on the Bayliner Trolley Service (see http://www.emtaerie.com/bayliner_trolley_service.html ). It is completely free and the EMTA (Erie Metropolitan Transit Authority) is extending their hours to 8PM on Friday to accommodate the wrestling spectators. You can also park at any city parking spot along the Trolley’s route and walk to the nearest trolley stop identified by a star on the map found on their website.

Saturday (3/29/08)

• 500 spaces at the 10^th and French parking lot
• 310 spaces at 8^th and French parking lot
• 450 spaces at 8^th and Peach parking lot
• 550 spaces at the West 9^th parking lot (between Peach and Sassafras Streets)
• Numerous downtown street parking spaces and small lots.
• Upper and lower parking lots at the Arena

· From South take I-79 North to Bayfront Highway. Follow Bayfront highway to Eighth Street. Take a right on Eighth street. Follow to French.

· From West take I-90 east to I-79 North follow the same as from South.

· From East take I-90 west to State street exit. Take a right off the exit ramp and follow Rt. 97. At the light continue straight on Rt. 505. Rt. 505 will dead end at State Street, take a right on eighth to French.

The arena is a city block in size located between French and Holland and eighth and ninth streets.
