Pennsylvania Junior Wrestling (PJW) announces more detail for the upcoming 2014 season.
Two State Championship events will be held in two separate locations and time frames. Both events will feature 13 Areas instead of 11 as in recent years. We plan to provide the top tournaments in the land, and hope to see record numbers of participants as a result of these changes.
The PJW Junior High State Championships:
• Will be 3/1 & 3/2 at Hempfield High School in Greensburg. This will be the venue for 2015 also.
• Most Area tournaments to Qualify for States are the week prior to the State Championships. Check with your Area to be sure of the date and location of your Area Tournament.
• Two wrestlers from each Area advance to the Jr. State Championships in 2014.
• Weigh-ins will occur each day at the tournament. Flat weight first day, additional pound on second day. There will be no weigh-in the night before the first day of the event.
The PJW Youth State Championships:
• Will be 3/21 & 3/22 at the PA Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg, same location as 2013.
• Most Area tournaments will occur in the same time frame as past years, many with sectional qualifiers as past years. Check with your Area to be sure of the dates and locations.
• This event consists of 8-U, 9-10 and 11-12 age divisions.
• The tournament schedule will be revised to a fan friendlier, shorter day each day.
The Pennsylvania Wrestling Coaches Association Board of Directors unanimously endorsed the PJW plan and agrees there will be more opportunities for the younger wrestlers in Pennsylvania.
